DIY Anniversary

My In-Laws anniversary was a few weeks ago, and I decided to get a little creative.

My Mother-in-Law had been wanting a cake plate and she also loved the sugar cookies I made around the holidays..so..I decided to combine the two, add some love birds to the mix, and voila! I created their Anniversary Gift :)

I purchased the cake plate at Home Goods and the Love Birds at Michaels.

You can make many variations of this gift (cake plate or other dish, cookies, cake or cupcakes, and any sort of keepsake in the middle).

Here are some pictures of the process followed by Martha Stewart’s (delicious) Sugar Cookie Recipe:

I rolled out the dough and cut the cookies in the shape of a heart.

I decorated the cookies with family members names (dogs included), sayings about love, happy anniversary, and of course lots of hearts!

I placed the cookies on the plate around the love birds :)

Placed the lid on and wrapped it up in tissues paper:

The gift was a HIT! :)

MARTHA STEWART’S (Delicious) SUGAR COOKIE RECIPE:

Ingredients

  • 4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Directions

  • Sift flour, baking powder, and salt into a bowl.
  • Put butter and sugar in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Mix on medium speed until pale and fluffy. Mix in eggs and vanilla. Reduce speed to low. Gradually mix in flour mixture. Divide dough in half; flatten each half into a disk. Wrap each in plastic. Refrigerate until firm, at least 1 hour or overnight.
  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees with racks in upper and lower thirds. Let one disk of dough stand at room temperature just until soft enough to roll, about 10 minutes. Roll out dough between two pieces of plastic wrap to 1/4 inch thick. Remove top layer of plastic wrap. Cut out cookies with a 4-inch one-piece-shaped cookie cutter.
  • Bake, switching positions of sheets and rotating halfway through, until edges turn golden, 15 to 18 minutes. Let cool on sheets on wire racks.

Family Tree

A friend recently asked me for ideas for a 40th wedding anniversary and they wanted to spend under $100.  I gave her a few options, including this Family Tree Frame from Restoration Hardware.

This is a great way to illustrate how much a family has grown over the years, and you can even cut out and place the pictures before gifting it.

It is $89 and can be found online or in the catalog only.

Charming

This might be one of my absolute favorite gifts!  My first Helen Ficalora charm was given to me by my husband (a paw print charm from the dogs). The second from my Best Friend (a star) for my 30th Birthday, and the 3rd is the initial of my Son - an “E.”

A HF necklace / charm is such a thoughtful gift for any woman.  And, it is something you can add to in the future (child’s initial, etc).  Perfect for a Birthday, Anniversary, Holiday, or “anytime” gift - especially great for a new mom! This is a necklace you can wear every day (and I do)!

Charms start around $50 and the Chains start around $33

Men have Skin Too!

And, they often neglect it!!!

Now, I’m not gonna lie - MEN are MUCH harder to shop for then women!  I mean how many gadgets can you buy?

That’s usually when I start thinking of “experience” gifts or a gift card, but I must say if the man in your life doesn’t mind a little pampering (or has never tried it), then this is a great gift for him!  Even if he only owns deodorant and hair gel, get him started and introduce him to a little luxury!

This particular set retails for $50 and includes:

Facial Fuel Energizing Face Wash (8.4oz)

Ultimate Brushless Shave Cream –White Eagle (5.0oz)

Facial Fuel Energizing Moisture Treatment for Men (2.5oz)

“Ultimate Man” Body Scrub Soap (3.2oz)

Lip Balm #1 (0.5oz)

Ultimate Strength Hand Salve (1.0oz)

Kiehl’s men’s line is classic, and makes a great birthday, holiday, anniversary, or valentine’s day gift for that man in your life.

You can purchase Kiehl’s at most department stores, or http://www.kiehls.com
