Wine is the go-to gift for a hostess or housewarming, but the old standby just got a new spin in the form of a candle!

Rewined Candles use recycled wine bottles to create delicious wine-scented candles.

They are $28, and come in: Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Merlot, Champagne, and Seasonal Scents such as Sangria.

This is a great gift for a child age 3+ (that I found at the Gift Show).

Magna Tabs uses a magnetic stylus to help the child learn to hold and control a writing instrument. The stylus pulls up the beads to create a solid line.

They come in upper case, lower case, cursive, and numbers and are around $20.

Kitty Lover

If you need a gift for the cat lover in your life, then look no further then Kitty Jones: a super chic brand that caters to felines and their owners.

I stumbled upon KJ at the Gift Show, and I have to say I think this is the first cat-based post I am writing. It’s not because I don’t like them, I just don’t see many brands that focus on gifts for cats!

Pictured above: Kitty Grass ($14), Felted Wool Ball ($8), Catnip Mouse ($16), and the king of all cat gifts, a Cat Teepee ($120).

Mighty Twenty

How adorable are these pillows?!  Another one of my NY NOW Gift Show finds, Mighty Twenty is an awesome company that creates these super cute tooth fairy pillows!

Each pillow has a pocket to hold the tooth, is made in the USA, and has a creative twist on the back (maze, word search, animal spotting game).  The pillows come with a journal and access to their online tooth tracker (to keep track of these precious milestones)!

They are $34.95, and you can check them out here: Mighty Twenty Tooth Fairy Pillows

The Panhandler Bag

Keep food hot or cold while transporting it with The Panhandler Bag.  The inventor created it after continulously spilling food being transported and getting it all over the car,etc

This neat little bag has easy to carry handles, a zip down back panel, removable bottom (for easy cleaning), and keeps food warm for up to 3 hours!

The small is $24.99 and the large is $29.99 (and can be monogrammed).

NY NOW (Gift Show) Summer 2014

I was able to check out the NY Now Show at the Javitz Center yesterday, and like always it did not disappoint.  I could literally spend all 5 days there and still not see it all.  But, given that I only had one day to check out the show, I certainly fit a lot in.

Trends: recycle, recycle, recycle!  It seems like this is one trend that is not going anywhere anytime soon. Many companies are taking every day products (ie:water bottles) and repurposing them into other every day products (ie: diaper bags).  Such as Haba’s Green Label Neckline Bag: stylish, functional, and yes – made out of plastic water bottles!

Another trend this Summer is creativity (which I love).  Many companies are serving up the bare bones of the activity, and allowing the child’s imagination to run wild.  One company that does a great job of this is Good Things for Kids by Seedling – a New Zealand based company, that prides themselves on creative play.  I especially liked the NY Fashion Designers Kit and the Create Your Own Royal Princess Kit:

The other big trend I saw was Made in the USA.  I am a big fan of this, and love highlighting a company that forgoes bigger margins in order to produce their product locally.  There were a few of these, but one that stood out (and I will be highlighting again in the future) was The Green Egg: an eco-friendly line of hand-stitched tees.

Overall, the show was a success (as always).  I love discovering the latest and greatest in gift ideas and bringing them to you!

I would also like to thank NY Now for inviting me to be a judge for the Baby + Child Best New Product Awards.  Click here to see a list of the winners and finalists for Summer 2014.
